Copies are made as earrings in bronze or silver. The ram measures 3/4” wide by 1/2” tall. It is cast on both sides directly from the original piece from the Viking Age and is made in Norway.
The original was cast in bronze and was found in Kaupang. It was part of a decoration on a buckle, two rams are placed against each other with a crown like bud in between. The long horns give the figure a special artistic touch in line with the style of that time. The brooch was used by women to keep their dresses together at the neck. This unique design is rare but also known from the Viking town Birka in Sweden.
